So after Dan found the courage to start jumping his truck, He really launched it hard. So hard, in fact, that he stuffed the bed into the cab. He decided to step it up a bit and cage it.

Along with his already H&M long travel, coil overs, 37's, etc... after this cage build, Dan's truck will be on it's way to a very capable Prerunner. We still have to get a locker and deaver's in it though.

His cage will be DOM tubing 1.75" x .120 wall.

We are trying to keep most of the factory interior, seats, dash, and maybe even the headliner.

The cage will exit out the cab and tie into a bed cage. Since Dan has a budget, we will build this truck in stages.

Here's a pic of it now.

As some of you may know, Dan lost his marbles a long time ago. When I picked this truck for him last year, it had some rolling around rattle noises under the seat. The guy told me his kids stuffed marbles into the heater ducts under the carpet.

Well, needless to say, I had hoped I had found Dan's marbles. Sure enough, we tore it apart, and here they are.

Dan, do you want us to put them back in when we're done?

Dash is out! Finally. Almost every screw that holds wiring loom tabs, brackets, and ducting is coming from behind. I've cut every knuckle on every finger. Thanks Dan. JK

We debated on that, and decided not to. The amount of extra labor involved in mods to the factory dash and air vent system was over budget. In the end, this truck will have triangulation and strength from just in front of the doors, to the rear of the truck. It will also have roll over protection. Now, if Dan wants to race, or run behind trucks in the dezert and not worry about 37" tires coming through the windshield, then we have to step it up. If he wants to crash is truck end over end at 75mph, then we have to really re-think design. But for 'purpose built' , mild-prerunner, (and budget) I think we are right on track. Keep in mind, the rear end of this truck is stock.

Yeah that is what I was thinking .But I originally thought maybe Dan didn't want hole in the dash for the factor of all the Armor-All on the dash might screw up the paint on the the cage Laughing

yeah I agree. we made some really good progress tonight. I hope to have paint on the cage by the end of the weekend, and start getting the dash back in next week. Then we will tackle the bed cage.

The welding is complete, and tonight it should be prepped for paint.

It's done and it's a week early. Happy birthday Dan!

Here are some final pics. Overall, if I had to clasify this cage, I would call it a "Mild-Prerunner cage." It's functional for off road use, has strength and triangulation, to help keep the bed from smashing in to the cab(LOL), and safety in the event of a roll over. When Dan is ready to take it to the next level, we built it with the thought of adding on.

We were going to just leave the tubes coming out of the cab stubbed for now, and add a real bed cage later. We decided to just throw in some tubes to connect the cab to the bed for now. We left plenty of room to cut them out, and re-sleeve later.
